Getting Blocked On Crooks And Liars

Hehe, I just got my IP blocked on Crooks And Liars for making fun of trolls. I guess my sarcasm wasn't obvious enough.

Anyhooo....

Check out this article there on GreenPeace.

Or just watch the video here:

It is a great ad, except as the Great ArchDruid reminds us, it is way late.

For one thing, 90% of the large fish in the oceans are gone. And if we don't catch the last 10%, how are we going to feed all of the new babies?

Our topsoil is blowing away. Our petroleum production has peaked and is in decline. With diminishing fossil fuels, comes a diminishing food supply.

We are standing on the edge of a population crash.

Mr. Greer argues, still people want to believe that there is still time to turn this around, that it isn't too late. But this is an argument I've heard all of my life. And the 11th hour has come and gone. No savior has stepped forward with a plan that allows infinite growth on a finite planet. And none is coming. It is impossible to expand our population and consumption indefinitely on a planet with a finite energy input. Just as it is impossible to expand spending forever on a fixed income.

Our planet has been endowed with a limited energy input for as long as it has been here. Hundreds of millions of years of vegetable growth has been inefficiently fossilized to produce coal, oil and gas. At the rate of one million years of fossilization, per one year of consumption, we've burned more than halfway through our endowment. An every year, we try to burn it faster.

Now we'll likely burn through what is left in half the time it took to burn the first half. In fifty years, we'll probably down to near zero. In theory, a person of my age could live long enough to see that happen. So what I'm discussing isn't for me, some sort of rhetorical exercise. If I'm lucky, I can expect to live through a decade or two of this mess. My youngest relatives, will grow up in a worsening environment. They'll see the food quality and quantity continue to decline.

And don't think that this Chinese scare on food is the end. It is just the beginning. As food becomes more expensive to produce, food manufacturers will be pressured to keep sales volumes up. They will have to find alternative things to put in food to bulk it up.

Back when I was in grade school in the 1970s, we learned about all of this stuff that is happening now. We learned about oil running out, fish running low, pollution being spread everywhere, water supplies declining... We had kids doing what this kid is doing. Except we did it with poster board and school displays. Our parents helped. And still, time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin, into the future (apologies to Steve Miller)...

Malthus explained it all. He was the first to make sense of all of this. If we were a rational species, we would've heeded his call and cut back on birthing babies so quickly. After all, a smaller population consumes less food and produces less pollution. Ideally, our population from the 1930s would've been the top end. Had that occurred, we could've continued our increasing technological lifestyle for at least another hundreds of years without worrying over Peak Oil or Peak Energy.

Even in the 1970s, when the "Limits to Growth" report was published, there was still time to push back the clock. Curtailing population and consumption growth might have helped to turn this around. I have some doubts, but I think if there is a time to pick last chances, that was probably it.

Now it is after midnight, and we're still acting like it is the 11th hour.

As others keep suggesting. Take this time to find ways to live with less, so that when you have no choices left, you'll already be comfortable with the new way.

Learn some hand skills. Start a garden. Learn an acoustic instrument.

I agree with folks that say we can cut 20% of our energy usage without losing much of our quality of life. But I expect to see a 95% cut in my lifetime. How will I survive that? I'm not sure I will, but I'm not going out without trying.

Good morning, Weaseldog.

You got blocked at Crooks and Liars, you say.

Most sublime, my good Weaseldog. The Bloat-Blogs that constitute the online blog oligopoly are turning more and more into mainstream media shills and quivering panderers to some odd Left-Temperate Zone regimen; and the more they go for the BUX$$$, the more they show themselves for the true Democrats they really are.

I, myself, have been subjected to attacks, both on comment threads and in menacing e-mails, because I apparently didn't properly toe some pop-Leftist-cum-mainstream line (and I do wish The Righteous on the Olympus of Bloat-Blogs would publish a comprehensive guide with some scripts that are safe for posting as comments).

By the way, my recent post on the issue of the United States planning an attack on Iran has an appended update about the censoring of an article at another one of the "Soufflé Blogs," as I call them.

Not to worry, dog. You're always welcome at Websites of Dark Wraith Publishing.

...as long as you bring snacks for everybody.

And cards. We're always running short on decks of cards for the Thursday night strip poker and select readings from Stupid Things Neo-Cons Do.

The Dark Wraith suspects we'll never run out of reading material in that book.

Welcome Dark Wraith!

Well, I sent an email to them and got promptly reinstated. I can understand why
they banned my IP. I was posting sarcastic digs on the trolls, using the names
Karl Rove and Ann Coulter. I thought it was all in good fun.

Crooks And Liars is one of the more tolerant blogs when it comes to railing
against both manifestations of the ruling class. Eschaton and KOS tolerate very
little in the way of snark remarks about Democrats.

As a matter of fact, I was reading through the comments on your blog, when I
got an email notifying me that you had posted here.

Good afternoon, Weaseldog.

My patience with the Bloat-Blogs is pretty thin, these days. After the latest incident of censorship concerning that article by Maccabee at U-Know-Where, I am thoroughly disgusted with the top-o'-the-food chain blogs and their curious propensity to pander to what looks for all the world like an agenda I don't like; and they won't go after each other, which is exactly why the mainstream media has been so thoroughly damnable in letting FOX News get by with utter outrageousness, like there's some "professional courtesy" rule that applies equally to the venal and the venerable. So what do we get from the Bloat Blogs, instead? They jump to conclusions about people like you. And they make no move against their Leftist shriek machines who spew venom at me, which then encourages the mentally deranged among them to start sending me hate e-mails.

Although I doubt any of them would be stupid enough to make a run at my server, there's a history of the administrators of those sites siccing their loyal followers on bloggers who dare to question their o-so-wise attitudes, policies, and thinking.

Like I said, I don't think they're stupid enough to go after a technological bitch like me, but one never knows.

Here's a rule, Dog, and I'm sure you've heard it before; but it bears repeating. It's not hard and fast, but it's a good rule, nonetheless: The enemy of my friend is my enemy.

Remember that, Weaseldog. The world is full of people who can be your friends or your enemies. If you're honest to your nature and good to your spirit, you'll have plenty of the latter and few of the former. That's a good thing: a few friends are easy to defend when they stand with honor; a lot of enemies are easy to defeat when they herd like cowards.

The Dark Wraith has spoken.

I realize my fellow tax paying democrats don't want to attest to this fact, but, we're all selectively hypocritical and racist due to perception and experience.

The guy that helped partner daily kos behaved very badly, exorcising bad ethics and was guilty of exactly what he accuses the right of doing…he was touting a company in which he was posting unsubstantiated news about a company he had a stake in…I’m not sure if you realize how bad that kinda behavior is, but it is, very bad.

I have a private company that I still manage long distance in the states, and my husband has a public company, unfortunately, still domiciled in the states, (sarbo oxley sucks) and that kind of crap really scrapes the barrel.

Such is this blogging gig….we should never take ourselves that seriously I suppose…but daily kos and co behave in the same way everyone else does, unfortunately….

Except u wease!

Good aftermoon, Weezie!

HAHA, you got shitcanned, then unshitcanned! well, good on you, I-I mean, "bad doggie; no treats for you! Oh, all right, here."

I'm kinda ambivalent about the video. I personally find that it speaks the message needed, I just don't think it's gonna sell in Des Moine. Rather, the Authoritarian-lovers on the right, who make up the majority of GW-deniers, would rather see their big, strong presidential-type take the kid and bend him(her)over their knee. (Many of the kinkos would prefer the boy image, maybe!)
